Clear Aligner Travel Checklist: Departure to Arrival
For a travel day with clear aligners, keep your case and usual supplies within reach, record removal and reinsertion times, and review any gaps when you arrive.
Use the checklist below for the trip itself. For your wider routine, start with the clear aligner tracking guide. Your provider sets your wear goal and tray schedule; a travel checklist helps organize that plan.
Before departure: decide what needs to stay accessible
Put your case and the supplies you normally use under your provider's instructions in a bag you can reach during the journey. Think through a meal stop: could you reach the case without unpacking your suitcase?
Write down any questions for your provider before leaving:
- Which trays should I bring, given my current schedule?
- Does a planned appointment or tray change fall during the trip?
- How should I contact the practice while away if something is lost or damaged?
Ask about your own plan rather than choosing extra trays or changing the sequence yourself. Keep the answer with your travel notes. See planning your wear schedule for the distinction between tracking a schedule and deciding it.
During the journey: keep the case beside the logging task
Before a meal stop, get the case ready. When your aligners come out, record the time. When they go back in, record that time too. Follow your usual provider-directed care routine; the eating and drinking guide and cleaning guide cover those separate topics.
If your phone is unavailable, use paper to record the event and time. This is a personal recordkeeping fallback, not a claim about an app's offline operation. If you miss an entry, mark what you remember and what you do not know. A meal receipt can help you place a meal in time, but cannot establish when your trays went back in.
For trips across time zones, include the date and clock zone beside each handwritten time, such as the city whose local clock you used. Keep the original entries. Do not subtract local clock readings from different zones as if they shared one clock. This checklist does not describe how TrayJourney converts times or assigns travel entries to a day.
Copy this departure-to-arrival worksheet
Fill this in on paper or in your own separate notes. It is not an in-app form.
| Stage | Supplies to keep accessible | Event, date, time and clock zone | Question or uncertainty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Before leaving | ___ | ___ | Provider's tray and contact instructions: ___ |
| First meal stop | ___ | Out: ___; back in: ___ | Known, estimated or unknown: ___ |
| Later stop | ___ | Out: ___; back in: ___ | Known, estimated or unknown: ___ |
| Arrival | ___ | Review completed: ___ | Missing entry or question to follow up: ___ |
The worksheet's job is to keep supplies and records together at each stage. It does not calculate a treatment score or tell you whether to change trays.
On arrival: review the record before relying on a total
Check that each remembered removal has a corresponding reinsertion entry. Keep estimates labeled in your separate notes, and leave unknown times unknown. Do not invent a time to make the day appear complete.
Put the case and supplies where you can reach them at your destination. For case handling, use the aligner storage guide. If an aligner is lost or damaged, contact your provider for instructions about what to wear and what happens next. That situation needs its own logistics plan; this checklist covers departure through arrival, not replacement or delivery arrangements.
Using TrayJourney alongside the checklist
TrayJourney is a clear-aligner tracker app with manual logging and a daily total. Its default wear goal is 22 hours, adjustable to your provider's plan. Keep any uncertainty about remembered times in your own separate notes.
TrayJourney is free to download. Journey Pro unlocks tracking through monthly or annual subscriptions, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled and may include a 7-day trial for eligible customers. Lifetime has no trial. A one-time 24-hour preview needs no payment method.
TrayJourney is a tracking companion, not medical advice. Always follow your provider's plan.
Travel checklist questions
Should I change my wear goal for a flight?
Follow your provider's instructions. Travel plans and a tracking total do not determine a different wear goal or tray schedule.
What if I cannot remember a travel-day entry?
Keep the events you remember, label estimates, and mark the remaining time unknown in your separate notes. A complete-looking number is not a substitute for a record you can explain.
